180 Degree Rule - Moviemaking Technique from Peter John Ross on Vimeo.
This is a basic filming rule that means that 2 characters should always have the same left and right relationship with each other. It states that the camera(s) should remain on the same side of the imaginary line throughout filming. This imaginary line is perpendicular to the cameras view point in the establishing shot. This rule enforces continuity. If the rule is broke it will disorientate the audience especially in scenes of chase, conversation and sport.
