An over the shoulder shot is a shot taken of someone or something over the shoulder of another person. It is used in the above trailer for the BBC drama series Good Cop. I think it was in this situation because it really involves the viewer and gives them the opportunity to feel like a 'fly on the wall' and therefore keeps there interest, and will make them want to watch the actual show in order to see what that scene was about.
